It's Time To
So what's it like to wallow in the mud like a pig? Here's your chance to find out...right up close and personal...with the Hog Wallow Classic, held Sunday into Monday of Hog Fest weekend. The Kewanee National Guard Armory normally hosts this event with entry fees going to various youth programs. Because the local Guard unit is currently protecting our freedom in other parts of the world, this year the Kewanee YMCA and Kewanee Park District have graciously taken over the sponsoring duties for this event. There are two official, regulation sized courts. Only we don't use fancy parquet flooring! We don't even do sand. Instead, it's 12 to 15 inches of Henry County mud for these contests, dude! Teams of six players (with four alternates waiting on the sidelines) battle it out until only one team is left standing...or stuck in...the court! And here's the cool thing. This event never gets called on account of rain. It just saves us the job of watering down the field of play! Rule and entry information is available right here. The Kewanee Pool and Spa Team were the 2008 Hog Wallow Champions. When it comes to this event, our motto is: "if you're wearing white, you won't be for long!"
