The Hog Wallow Classic observed its
37th
installment in 2022. This event is hosted by the Kewanee unit of the Illinois National
Guard. Here's how it works. Two
full-sized courts are created at Chautauqua Park in Kewanee, IL.
Only instead of grass or sand, the "floor" is 12 to 15 inches of
our finest Henry County mud! The result, as you can see
from the photos and video, are two teams, volleyballs and nets
pretty much trashed by the end of each match. It's no longer: "I have the dirt on Kewanee!"
NOW, it's "I have the dirt OF Kewanee on ME!" And the
mud slinging goes on for TWO days, starting on Sunday and
continuing thru Monday!
The entry proceeds go to the Kewanee Park District Youth Programs.
Plaques go to the 1st through 4th place winning teams. Portable
showers are set up on site for clean-up. Yeah, it doesn't do much
good. We're just trying to make you feel better about clean-up!

It's a chance for you to come to hog days and "get piggy with
it" in a manner
of speaking! |
