| Some things changed in
2008: The Pork Cook-Off Showdown took on a title sponsor and became "The
Save A Lot Showdown!" The competition was also moved from West Park to
the heart of Hog Fest activities in downtown Kewanee. However, one
thing didn't change...Kyle Engstrom maintained his hold on "bragging rights"
for the best pork fixins' in Henry County! The categories in 2008 were Ribs, Roasts and Miscellaneous. Taking first
place in the Rib division was Kyle Engstrom of Kewanee, Illinois.
Second went to Jeremy Staats of Sterling, Illinois and third
place to In the Roast category, Jim Griffith was the hands on first place winner with Richard Edwards of Rockford, Illinois taking second and Jeremy Staats of Sterling, Illinois, garnering third. For Miscellaneous, which included anything prepared with pork that was not a rib or roast, Kyle was the top gun with his chocolate covered bacon strips; Jeremy Staats brought home second and Richard Edwards third place. The Overall grand champion winner was Kyle Engstrom who received the Showdown Traveling Trophy. A 50/50 raffle saw Richard Edwards of Rockford, Illinois the winner. 1st place winners in each category received $250 cash. |
