The Hog Days Stampede is held first thing Saturday morning of Hog Days weekend beginning at 8 a.m. Entrants cover the gamut from professional runners to non professional walkers, those in wheelchairs or with crutches and everyone in between. Whatever your pace, it's all encouraged and urged on, celebrating 47 consecutive years of healthy in 2023. Presented by Breedlove's Sporting Goods, The Community State Bank and The Chamber of Commerce, all of Kewanee, everyone is welcome to enter.  This is a competitive racing event for those who want that and prizes and trophies go to the winners.  But for those not into hard core racing, and there are hundreds of entrants in that category each year, get yourself out there and just do it! We promise that you will be cheered across the finish line and "hi-fived" no matter where you place or what your time. Guaranteed!

The Stampede is divided into 3 events: the 4 mile, the 1 mile, and just for kids under 7, the quarter mile.

In the year 2022 four mile run male division, Tyler Gibson of DesMoines, IA won with a time of 26:51. Antonio Martinez of Kewanee, IL was second and was the First Kewanee finisher at 27:32 and Eric Lear of Kewanee placed third with a time of 28:16.

For the female runners in the year 2022 four miler, Brooklyn Smith of Geneseo, IL placed first with a time of 27:26. Alex Lempke of Ann Arbor, MI was second at 28:03 and Past three time winner Angie Banister of Dunlap, IL placed third with a time of 29:40. Chelsey Rashid-Rogers of Kewanee placed sixth overall but was the first female Kewanee finisher in the 4 mile with a time of 32:55.

In the 1 mile run, 1st place male was Lain Taylor of Kewanee, IL (5:44) and 1st place female was Kaylin Gale of Galva, IL (5:55). 1st female Kewanee finisher was Lucy Landwehr  (6:56).

Over 500 runners and walkers competed in the 4-mile, 1 mile and the kid's quarter mile events.

The official entry form will be available here or from the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce by early summer.

The 4 mile course record is 19:24 run by Trent Morrell of Good Hope, IL back in 1996! Extra cash will go the first person who can break that mark! It was not broken in 2022.
