And so they
did at the 24th Annual World Festival
Pageants held Saturday, July 23rd, 2011 at the First Christian Church
Auditorium in Kewanee, IL. 22 contestants were on stage for the competition and in the end nine young ladies were named either queen or runners-up in three pageants...Little Miss for those age 8 to 11,
Junior Miss for those age 12 to 15
and Miss World Festival
for young ladies 16 to 21.
The Emmy P. VandeVoorde Spirit award and scholarship was added to this
year's pageant as a way to honor Emmy who was called away to heaven on
June 29, 2011. A special moment of silence was also offered to
honor her.
Those entered compete in
evening gown competition (party dress for Little Miss contestants), private
interviews in front of a panel of judges and impromptu questions live on stage
to reach a composite score that determines the winners. Depending on which
pageant they are entered in, winners receive scholarships, savings bonds and cash
prizes. All contestants receive merchandise prize packages. The Queens and
their courts then spend their Labor Day weekend opening and hosting most of the festival events
as well as making appearances at many other community events throughout their
year.
Also at the 2011
pageant, Stephanie Moore was honored for being the first contestant ever to win
all three pageants offered by World Festival...she was Little Miss in 2002;
Junior Miss in 2006; and Miss World in 2010. Master of Ceremonies for 2011 was Dan
Craig of Kewanee. Below is a listing of other pageant awards. Congratulations to everyone who
entered. All 22 contestants had fun and discovered that the way to real
happiness is by being yourself when you make your own kind of music and sing
your own special song! The details and entry forms for the 2012 pageants
will be
available on our Download Forms button to the right of this
or any page on our website in the spring of 2012. |
