The
fifth annual Pork Cook-off Showdown was declared a success for 2009
when 11 contestants signed up to show the world THEY could do pork
the best!

A Lot Meat & Grocery and The Pioneer Club of Kewanee, grills were
set up in and around the Pioneer's beer garden and at 12:01 AM
Sunday morning, September 6th of Hog Days weekend, the cooking
battle began! Contestants could enter in any or all of three
categories...Ribs, Roasts or Miscellaneous. Panels of
judges sampled and declared winners, eastablishing bragging rights
for these parts until September 5th, 2010 when the next Showdown is
scheduled to be held.
Winners, (listed below) received $250
cash awards for first place and an overall grand prize winner
received an additional $250 prize. Custom engraved cutting
boards and plaques were awarded to the other finishers. In addition,
a raffle was held to award a 45 thousand BTU grill and meat bundle
to one lucky winner: that turned out to be Carl Wenger of Kewanee,
IL!
Judges for 2009 included: Tammy
Brown, Troy Baumgartner, Bruce Tossell, Mark DeDecker, Greg
Christakos, Shane Kazubowski, Dave Guzzardo, Norm Brown, Mike Berry,
Mike Lekcy, Dave Clarke and Andy Bullock.
